A BALUN is a device, which allows a symmetrical antenna (e.g. dipole) to feed an asymmetrical line(e.g. coax cable) and vice versa. It is balancing an unbalanced input.

 

Construction notes. . The wire used in the construction of our BALUN’s is a High Voltage High duty cycle, High Frequency wire. This wire is more commonly used in the fabrication of high voltage power inverters and many Mill spec BALUN’s. Many of the BALUN’s on the Amateur radio market today only use basic transformer wire. This lends to High voltage stress, and dielectric breakdown with just moderate use. The BALUN’s are constructed with High tension eye hooks. The external threads, nuts, washer are treated with Pentrox an oxide inhibiting joint compound used to improve electrical conductivity and enhance the integrity of the connection.

B11VA 1:1 Voltage BALUN

    * The RadioWavz 1:1 designed to handle full legal power with a low standing wave radio (SWR). It has 1 to 1 impedance ratio. The Voltage BALUN is a Tri filer Air Core BALUN. This is one of the most common BALUN designs. The BALUN is rated to handle 1500 watts power. 1.8 Mhz to 30 MHz with low energy loss. Typically insertion loss is less than 0.2 dB One of the strongest features is the fact that the BALUN utilizes an open air core. the air-core of the tri filer won’t saturate like the ferrite-core and, unlike ferrite-core wire-wound baluns, single-layer wound baluns almost never have an insulation breakdown problem. Also, a Trifilar-wound BALUN does not like to work into anything but a perfectly balanced load. With an imperfectly balanced load, the coax-balun will not, as does the trifilar balun, generate a differential, third RF-current on the outside of the coax that brings the RF to the input of the tuner.

B11VF   1:1 Voltage Ferrite BALUN

 The RadioWavz 1:1 Ferrite-core BALUN designed to handle full legal power with a low standing wave radio (SWR). It has 1 to 1 impedance ratio. The Trifilar hybrid ferrite core BALUN one of the most efficient BALUNs of this design class. The BALUN is rated to handle 200w CW key down 1500w ssb/pep. 1-50 MHZ with very low energy loss. The most efficient BALUN of the Design class.

B11I - 1:1 Current BALUN

    * The RadioWavz 1:1 Current Balun is a Isolation transformer. This transformer acts as a RF isolator reduce or eliminate stray RF often found on coax. Power is radiated by the antenna not the feedline. Also known as a common code choke. The Isolation transformer is effective from 1.8 to 50 MHz. The Standard  BALUN is designed to handle 200w cw key down 1500w ssb/pep.

    * The RadioWavz 4:1 Air Core Voltage BALUN is a Ruthroff 4:1 voltage BALUN it has become a very popular BALUN, and can be used with both floating and symmetrical loads without modification. Designed to handle its rated power with a low standing wave radio (SWR). It has 4 to 1 impedance ratio. Because of its air core it has the highest voltage break down ratings in its design class. The Air core BALUN won’t saturate like the ferrite-core and, unlike ferrite-core wire-wound BALUNs, single-layer wound BALUNs almost never have insulation breakdown problems. Frequency Coverage: 1.8 to 30 MHz. Good for matching a 200 ohm load to a 50 ohm load, or 300 ohm load to a 75 ohm load.

Two transmission lines are connected in parallel at the low impedance side and in series at the high impedance end. Making for a more balanced and favorable match. ISOX Inline RF Isolation Transformer UNUN

    * The RadioWavz Inline RF Isolation Transformer. A UNUN Unbalanced to Unbalanced Isolation transformer. Is designed for providing galvanic isolation and inter coupling of an at least partially unbalanced line and a substantially balanced line having similar line impedance’s which is capable of passing differential signals over a wide bandwidth while substantially attenuating any common mode signals. This transformer acts as a RF isolator by isolating the signal and ground path between two segments of a RF circuit. It provides a means of eliminating the noise developed due to ground currents and pickup over long cable runs. Its wide bandwidth, excellent pulse fidelity, and inline design make it useful for a wide variety of installation possibilities. This UNUN can be used to break or prevent ground loops.
